The Challenge
To create a luxury five-star hotel in Madinah that is more than a place to stay. The project needed to offer a serene base for religious travellers, rooted in Arab hospitality and the spiritual purpose of the journey. The design required sensitivity to cultural context, climate conditions, and the deeply reflective nature of pilgrimage. The building needed to support a sense of contemplation, purity and quiet elegance, while also addressing practical considerations such as privacy, energy efficiency and comfort in a hot climate.

The Results
The Four Seasons Madinah was conceptualised as an urban resort that supports spiritual transformation. The architecture expresses serenity and respect through simple, elegant forms and a building skin that responds to the environment. Kinetic faรงade louvers shift according to time of day and prayer orientation, providing privacy, reducing solar heat gain and conserving energy. The reflective treatment on the rear surface of the louvers allows the building to visually change from a grounded, stone-like structure to a glowing lantern-like sanctuary. The design offers a peaceful retreat that adapts to its surroundings and supports the spiritual journey of its guests.
